Charlie is a graduate of Great Bridge High School and holds a BBA and MBA from Central Pacific University as well as a Doctor of Ministry degree from Honolulu University. He is an Honorary Alumnus from Old Dominion University and is a graduate of the Liberty Home Bible Institute of Liberty University. He started his venture in the architecture, engineering and construction industry in 1958 working at Henry Eagleton Company for 11 years starting as a sales clerk and eventually becoming the General Sales Manager. In 1963, Charlie enlisted in the United States Air Force serving 4 years and was the recipient of the U.S. Air Force Commendation Medal. In 1974, Charlie and Dorothy started Engineering Media Inc., their own small two person business selling engineering and drafting supplies. Over 17 years it grew to over 30 employees and 3 offices. In 1991, they started Hackworth Reprographics Inc. Charlie has served as President since that time devoting his time to building the company. Now he works as a sales consultant and property manager.
In the community, Charlie has volunteered in many organizations. Currently he is a 32 year member serving as Treasurer to the Chesapeake Kiwanis Club having held all officer positions as well as Lt. Governor, Division 21. He is also the Virginia State President of the Gideons International, joining some 20 years ago. He has traveled to India, Honduras, Denmark and Indonesia in support of this ministry. He is active with the Eastern Reprographic Association as the Convention Coordinator. Charlie is married to the former Dorothy Rice Hobbs and they have two sons, Charles II and David, four grandchildren. In his spare time (when he has it) he loves playing golf and boating. He is also active in Elizabeth River Baptist Church.
